Tbogg's: The Tangible and the Ephemeral

Fuckert

I really don't give a shit that this dude is sucking someone's dick in the White House. I just find it suprising that his dick sucking is allowed to be a security liability:
In March, 2003, Guckert left the White House twice on days he had never checked in with the Secret Service. Over the next 22 months, Guckert failed to check out with the Service on fourteen days. On several of these visits, Guckert either entered or exited by a different entry/exit point than his usual one. On one of these days, no briefing was held; on another, he checked in twice but failed to check out.

I'm Back

I finally finished my huge meeting. It was a pre-proposal defense meeting to see if my committee would give me the green light for writing my proposal. Eventhough the meeting went really well I was still nervous as all get out. It's hard work trying to convince some of the leading authorities in a field that you're worth a damn. Which leads me to this post over a Tbogg. David Horowitz rubs me the wrong way to say the least but what really gets me is things like this:
I asked Jamie, who is a senior and whose father served this country in the military, if he had ever taken a course with Professor Hiller. When he said no, I asked him why. He pointed at the sign [large Anti-Iraq War poster].
Jamie and Horowitz are pussies. If you're scared to take a class with a professor that might disagree with you then you really don't belong in college at all. Go find some work at a Scafie funded shithole and sell your soul so that you can feel "comfortable". Jesus, people like that are useless.

Yahoo! News - Border-Watch Group to Stop Patrols

They may stop , or whatever. I like these guys [eye roll] they seem so tough:
"But the Minutemen are not going anywhere. We are duty-bound to do what we promised, and we promised to stay through April. We have just as many stations, just as many volunteers, and none of us are laying down our lawn chairs and walking away."
Double emphasis mine.

Hustle that Fucking Kung Fu

I also saw "Kung Fu Hustle" today. It is basically loony toon kung fu. And damn is it halirious!

Paint By Numbers

I finally heard the collobration by Murs and Danger Mouse called "Paint By Numbers" that was produced for the Genocide in Sudan compilation. Goddamn is it a good track. DM comes in with a gut churning instrumental that is practically flawless: blues guitar loop over a haunting vocal. The track perfectly complements Murs who just slayes the lyrics with a rollercoster of emotion that seems almost impossible for one song: venom, anger, compassion, frustration, despair, and hope. For a backpack rapper with a punk rock braclet, Murs has definately proven that he can hold his own lyrically.

DeLaying the Inevitable

From Tbogg we have this about Tom DeLay:
The No. 2 Republican in the House has openly criticized the federal courts since they refused to order the reinsertion of Terry Schiavo's feeding tube. And he pointed to Kennedy as an example of Republican members of the Supreme Court who were activist and isolated.

"Absolutely. We've got Justice Kennedy writing decisions based upon international law, not the Constitution of the United States? That's just outrageous," DeLay told Fox News Radio. "And not only that, but he said in session that he does his own research on the Internet? That is just incredibly outrageous."
Uglukas Flea hits the nail on the head in the comments section with this:
Like I've said elsewhere, if they are so concerned about foreign laws being applied in the US, why are they so hot for filtering US laws thru the 10 Commandments?

It's not like Moses was from Alabama or something.
I have nothing more to add other than DeLay admonishing someone for doing their own research and using the internet as a research tool shows just how unhinged and out of the mainstream this guy has gotten.

Don't Get Whiplash from the Doubletake

That's right, Santorum nearly had to contemplate an abortion to save his wife's life:
Last fall, Santorum, a Pennsylvania Republican who is the leading proponent of barring the procedure - termed ''partial-birth abortion'' by its foes - was within hours of having to decide whether to use an abortion to save the life of his wife, Karen Garver Santorum, who was in her fifth month of pregnancy.

Ultimately, they did not have to make a decision; nature made it for them. Karen went into premature labor brought on by infection, delivering a boy who had a fatal abnormality. The child died two hours later.

In an interview, the Santorums said they would have authorized an abortion had there been no other choice.
Emphasis from Atrios but I agree. It's amazing how people's stance on abortion changes when it personally affects them.

Tha Internets

I guess Bush was right, there is more than one internet. It's creatively called internet2 and people are already trading music over it.

Rush is Retarded

No, seriously, Rush is retarded. Either that or he needs his oxycontin:
LIMBAUGH: When does he start up this stupid little network? August? Yip yip yip yahoo. You know what Gore said about this? It's going to be liberal. It's going to reflect the point of view of young people.

What the hell is that, Al? What the hell is the point of view of young people? Blow jobs, that's what they're doing out there. They're out there getting oral sex all day long, that's what they're talking about. That's the point of view they can't wait that your boss,

Al made sure that's become the number one sport in high school today. So, I guess you're going to have a BJ network out there, Al, is that what you're going to do? You're going to call your network the oral sex channel out there, start competing with MTV?

No, it's not going to have any of this stuff out there, folks, it's going to be talking about liberalism, no, no, no, that's not what we're about. Classic cannot even admit who he is.
What the fuck? Let me get this straight. Rush creates a false mission statement for a network that hasn't even made a debut yet then proceeds to lambaste it's founder for not holding himself up to Rush's false mission statement?

Who exactly does Rush make sense to? Also, If they really do show oral sex on MTV then I need to get cable.

Edan

During the life of an artist there seems to be several approaches to releaseing subsequest material. If you make apples you can use the seeds to refine your farming skills and produce sweeter ones later. Or you can take a delicious apple that you've made and grind it to a pulp and let it rot in the sun like "Black Dialogue". Furthermore an artist can take their highly polished apple and use it to make apple pie. You might have not been expecting apple pie but goddamn is it fine. Finally, an artist can bring you a crips apple, the type of legendary apple that tempted Adam, then turn around and next deliver you a Buick. You'd normally say what the fuck, but this Edan, and the Buick is mighty fine.

It is nearly impossible to compair "Beauty and the Beat" to Edan's previous work simply because it's like nothing he's ever done before. His rhyme style, granted, has remained intact, the usual slick wordplay and metered cadence are all present on the album. Production on the other hand is completely different utilizing 60's psychodelic infused rock. The closest piece of work that "Beauty" can be compaired to is Danger Mouse's "The Grey Album"; however, there is a huge difference. DM remixed loops from "The White Album" to put over Jay-Z's lyrics. Edan, produces all his own beats and made the instrumentals himself for his own lyrics. Edan made a claim in "Primitive Plus":
This one is a special dedication to all of you out there
that can scratch, that can produce
and that can rock the m-i-c
You know
Cause that's me doin the cuts in the background
the beat I put togtether, you know
Big up to the TDS Mob
and then then, you know, the rhymes I'm doin
I got it all, the complete package
You can't fuck with that at all
All you people out there that can just rhyme, you wanna battle?
We need to take it to the triathlon
You need to shut up and bring all that shit to the table
I'll take you out one by one, yo
And I'm out
Edan fulfills that earlier claim again on "Beauty", he does everything. And with a CD weighing in at just under 35min there is very little room for error. There is no filler, no crap, no fat to trim, each beat and line is crafter with wicked precision.

Edan once again challenges people's perception of hip-hop. He has effective taken the pervebial envelope and not pushed it but burned it to ash. He then took the leftover carbon and compressed it into a diamond of incompariable brightness. Although 3 years is a long time to go between full length releases, with quality like this you'll have plenty to bump before he blesses us with his next gem.

The Perceptionists

I got a fat box of CDs in the mail the other day. One Album, "Black Dialogue", by The Perceptionists I was really excited about. The Perceptionists are made up of Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, and DJ Faks One. All of these dudes are hype, Mr. Lif's "I Phantom" album is easily one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. What's cool is that when these dudes get together crazy hype shit happens:

-Show Starter
-Medical Aid
-The Avengers

Guys, I'm only saying this because I love you all. Mr. Lif, that Iron Helix joint off of I Phantom was a life affirming experience. Ak, Say Yes Say Word, off The EP is some phat shit. But guys, this is some tough love here but "Black Dialogue" is pretty fucking weak.

It was nice of you all to try to resurrect Humpty Hump for Career Finders, but that track was wack. We don't need another song mocking fake gangstas becoming rappers.

And please, the almighty Guru couldn't breathe life into Party Hard. You guys aren't club music, you're fucking better than that!

Memorial Day? Come on were you fucking board one day and came up with this shit? Where's the anger from tracks like Get Wise '95? The refrain sounds like a weak protest song.

There are some butter bangers though that manage to lend some light to the otherwise pathetic tracks.

-People 4 Prez

-Frame Rupture

-Love Letters: for as campy as this song is, I do like it. It's well written and the beat is nice.

-Black Dialogue: Now this is what I'm talking about! This is the strongest track on the album and what I expect from the raw talent that makes up The Perceptionists. Guys, this is straight quality, the rest of your album should shine as brightly as this track.

-5 O'Clock: Butter smooth, pump this in the car with the windows down.

-Breathe in the Sun: Borders on being overproduced but overall a really nice song.

Nothing could have stopped me from owing this album simply because Mr. Lif and Ak are some top rappers but they need to tighten up and find their hunger again. I would have preferred an EP or something, burn bright and go out with a bang on an album, don't give me some half hearted shit.

Fer Fucks Sake!

According to a link from Pandagon, Bush pays a dude, wait...I pay a dude, to fill Bush's iPod. Jesus, when can we stop pretending that Bush is just one of the normal guys? I just wonder what Bush's "friday random ten" looks like.

Health Care Issues

Ezra has a really good post about health care and the market place, go read it.
This is why health care is not a market. Because in a market, you limit your liabilities. In health insurance, your liabilities are the sick. In health care, the aim is to cover the sick. In private health care, the aim is to turn a profit, and thus you have to ignore the sick and cover the healthy. It just doesn't, it just can't, work.
This sort on inconsistency needs to be pounded out when trying to align health care with a capitalist freemarket system. I don't really expect people to understand that though. From the comments:
The problem isn't quality differentiation (although that is a separate problem) the problem is that it isn't profitable to provide health care to people who need lots of it. The market does a bad job of providing health care to people who can be identified as heavy health-care users; if we don't want those people to die in the streets, we need non-market solutions.
Heavy health care users are not just the obese, alcoholics, and drug users. It's also people with congenital birth defects, type 1 diabetes, genetic disorders, and the elderly. Furthermore we need to align health care with bioterrorism. If there is an anthrax attack, do we turn away uninsured people or treat them and fleece them later because they were victims of a terrorist attack? How many people should they be allowed to infect before a doctor agrees to see them without insurance or outside their normal provider?

I finally saw Sin City this weekend. It was awesome, it's the way comic book movies should be. There is just this amazing seamless flow between comic book elements and full movie action. Anyway, go see it. Also, Marv is my new hero, that dude is a badass beyond belief: "I don't know about you, but I'm havin' a ball. "

Yet Another Conservative Opines on Judicial Assassination

More shit from dKos about judges. Hunter gives the following snippet:
Lawyer-author Edwin Vieira told the gathering that [Supreme Court Justice Anthony M.] Kennedy should be impeached because his philosophy, evidenced in his opinion striking down an anti-sodomy statute, "upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law."

Ominously, Vieira continued by saying his "bottom line" for dealing with the Supreme Court comes from Joseph Stalin. "He had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: 'no man, no problem,' " Vieira said.
No wonder this dude loves Stalin I mean Stalinism is:
Stalinism

n : a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or opposition etc.) [syn: dictatorship, absolutism, authoritarianism, Caesarism, despotism, monocracy, one-man rule, shogunate, Stalinism, totalitarianism, tyranny]

GOP turns on DeLay

This is from Daily Kos Hunter says
DeLay's opponents inside the GOP are offering reporters the dirt, aiming to take him down. They don't want him as the party's albatross in 2006.
If this is true it's fucking pathetic to me. Our media can't do it's fucking job and has to wait for it to be goddamn hand-fed it's stories. Fucking useless!

First Draft - On Messengers and Shooting

This is awesome!
Freedom isn't free, you say, giving me the impression that whatever other xenophobic homophobic fundie whackjob tendencies you harbored, at least you understood that for your bravado somebody pays a price. I hope you got a receipt, because it sounds like freedom's a little more expensive than you counted on. In fact freedom's so fucking expensive you can't stand to be told what market price is these days.
Emphasis mine. Don't go passing the buck when you're shown what your actions cost people.

Yahoo! News - Calif. Woman Charged in Schiavo Threat

More culture of life:
Jones told FBI agents she was "just kidding" and soon began receiving threats herself, FBI Agent Christopher Sadlowski wrote in an affidavit filed Monday in federal court in San Francisco.
That's a really funny joke you got there; now let's see you laugh your way through jail time.

Border Patrol Complains About Volunteers

Besides the fact that the Minuteman Project seems like a recipe for disaster, why, in short, do these people hate America and interfere with our national security?
Over the past few days, [the volunteers] have set off sensors, forcing agents to respond to false alarms, said Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Jose Maheda.

"Every sensor has to be addressed," Maheda said. "It's taken away from our normal operations."
Emphasis mine. I'm sure that there is a better way to address this problem.

Google Target: Michelle Malkin

"I like refried beans. I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time."

I can't believe I found this out so late but in addition to the Pope, Terri Schiavo, and Johnnie Cochran, a great guy has passed away: Mitch Hedberg. That guy was so funny. When I first heard him I thought he was really stupid. But after listening to him for a while I was crying I was laughing so hard. It just took me some time to get used to his style.
I went to the park and saw a kid flying a kite. The kid was really excited. I don't know why, that's what they're supposed to do. Now if he had a chair on the other end of that string, I would have been impressed.
R.I.P. Mitch, we will miss you dearly!

DeLay's House of Cards.

When you play Texas No Limit Hold'em with your house of cards, don't be suprised when it comes crashing down.

Time Stamps

The time stamp got all fucked up and I don't have the patience to go back and change it all. Sorry about that.

National Poetry Month

Amanda at Pandagon informs us that this month is national poetry month. I have always liked e.e. cummings, he just had a really cool style and I loved his flow. He's one of the few poets who can hit me and hit me hard. Anyway, the picture and the following poem were lifted from American Poems:

e.e. cummings- as freedom is a breakfastfood
as freedom is a breakfastfood
or truth can live with right and wrong
or molehills are from mountains made
-long enough and just so long
will being pay the rent of seem
and genius please the talentgang
and water most encourage flame

as hatracks into peachtrees grow
or hopes dance best on bald men's hair
and every finger is a toe
and any courage is a fear
-long enough and just so long
will the impure think all things pure
and hornets wail by children stung

or as the seeing are the blind
and robins never welcome spring
nor flatfolk prove their world is round
nor dingsters die at break of dong
and common's rare and millstones float
-long enough and just so long
tomorrow will not be too late

worms are the words but joy's the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts and thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
-time is a tree (this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough

Hip-Hop Lyric of the Moment

Today's HHLM is brought to you by The Mountain Brothers:
Now take it to the next level, take a glance a greatness
Don't take life for granted
Cause fake types are stranded to waste, mics get branded, embraced
Never abandoned on slates, we write the standard

Damn Blogger

Sorry about the lack of posts lately but blogger has been eating my balls, I mean posts.

Abstinence advocates evoke anger

I got this post from over at Daily Kos. This whole abstinence thing really wears thin, especially when you read something like this quote:
Abstinence is the healthiest choice for teens because they are not ready for the adult emotions of sex and the adult choices that sex entails...

[snip]

Tell them that abstinence is the healthiest choice... Waiting for sex shows self-respect. Let your teen know that even though they are capable of having sex, having sex will not make them an adult...making good choices will.
Yeah, good choices will make you an adult, especially good choices about sex. Hey, just ask this guy if he made good adult choices about sex.

Damn Blogger

Blogger keeps eating my balls, I mean posts. I'll try back later.

R.I.P.

Rest in Peace Terri.
